Talking about your sexual health challenges with one of our Peer Mentors can provide valuable support and perspective from someone who has walked in your shoes.
Peer Support is a collaborative learning and support approach, where those with lived experiences are dedicated to helping and guiding others who are in similar situations. Our Peer Mentoring team's primary goal is to harness the power of these experiences to empower and support you, enabling you to use your unique journey as a source of inspiration and guidance for others facing similar challenges.
The Peer Mentoring team at SASH is actively involved in a wide range of initiatives to support our service users, which include:
- Conducting one-on-one mentoring sessions to provide personalised guidance and assistance
- Leading group sessions and workshops to address specific issues and promote personal growth
- Engaging in outreach sessions to connect with individuals who may benefit from our support
- Organising and hosting social events that foster a sense of community and connection
- Assisting in various areas within the SASH organisation to contribute to our mission of providing comprehensive support
You can interact with our Peer Mentoring team in two ways, either by receiving support from our peer mentors, or instead volunteering to become a peer mentor yourself to support others.
This peer-to-peer interaction can make learning more relatable and less intimidating, as often we feel more comfortable discussing difficulties with someone who is facing or has faced similar challenges. This then allows our peer mentors themselves to benefit by reinforcing their own knowledge and developing communication and leadership skills. Peer mentoring is a powerful tool for personal and collective growth, enabling individuals to learn from each other and thrive together.
At SASH, our team of Peer Mentors are a source of inspiration, with members who have undergone a diverse range of experiences.
These experiences can include:
- Overcoming mental health challenges including isolation and emotional wellbeing
- Sex working experience
- Offering support to individuals living with HIV
- Championing LGBTQIAP+ causes
- Managing issues such as anger management
- Navigating the unique challenges associated with being from an ethnic majority
- The impact of the Menopause and other reproductive health conditions including Endometriosis and Fibroids
Anyone in London can become a Peer Mentor with SASH. If you'd be interested, please contact [email protected]
