What is Counselling?

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or even alone, counselling can offer you needed sexual health and wellbeing support.

The goal of counselling is to provide a confidential and safe environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, gain deeper self-awareness and understanding, then develop effective coping strategies.

Once you have entered the SASH service, your care coordinator will discuss with you whether counselling is the correct service for you. You will be allocated to a counsellor who will assess your goals, needs, and the support you require. Counselling offers a confidential and safe space for you to explore personal, emotional, or psychological challenges and achieve change.

Some of the topics our counsellors can support you with include:

  • Sexual health and wellbeing
  • Relationships and boundaries
  • Exploring emotions, including developmental issues due to trauma
  • Understanding and managing anxiety and depression
  • Exploring and managing living with HIV or an STI
  • Supporting the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Chemsex
  • Sex working

This service is delivered by qualified and registered counsellors and psychotherapists who will support you in a non-judgmental space. SASH offers up to 12 sessions, delivered in-person or online.
